DIY peppermint shoes – Crafty Chica

Here is a tutorial for DIY peppermint shoes!
I can’t resist painting on shoes – especially when I find awesome blank canvases on clearance at the store. These basic black flats were only $5. Sure, I could have left them black suede and go on with normal life OR have my way with them.
Which do you think I chose?
These shoes are perfect for a holiday party or when you want to add a little cheer without going overboard. They also make great stocking stuffers, or you can make them and wear them to Noche Buena (Christmas Eve), any casual holiday occasion!
SUPPLIES for DIY peppermint shoes
Flats
Assorted paint brushes
Masking tape in skinny assorted widths
What I love about the Soft Paint is that it gives thick, even coverage and will cover a surface as dense as black suede!
Directions:
Dust off shoes to remove any debris.
Use the red to paint the entire shoes on the outside. Let dry and then add a second coat.

Once they are fully dry, look at different pictures of candy canes to find the pattern you want to replicate. Practice with markers on paper first to get the flow of the style.
Use the masking tape to tape off your shoes where you want to paint. This step isn’t required if you are an experienced painter. I want for people of all skill levels to be able to make these cute DIY peppermint shoes, so use the masking tape as a guide if needed!

Add the white paint using a thin brush. If you want super perfect lines, skip the masking tape and you can draw the lines with a ruler. I just went for it though!

Let the first layer of white fully dry and then add a second coat. And a third is needed.
You may have to go over the white a few times to make them super bright.
